Job summary

Sauer is seeking a Superintendent to lead daily field operations for federal construction projects in Norfolk, VA. You will coordinate subcontractors, ensure safety and quality, manage schedules, and represent Sauer professionally on DoD engagements.

Ideal candidates bring extensive DoD project experience, strong leadership, and proficiency with Primavera and MS Office. The role requires a bachelor’s degree and the ability to work on-site in a dynamic, federally regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field.
• At least 10 years of Quality Control Manager experience on federal construction projects.
• At least 5 years of DoD project experience on projects larger than $15M.
• Substantial superintendent experience on DoD projects.
• Working knowledge of DoD and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers procedures.
• Proficiency with Primavera scheduling software and MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Strong leadership, communication, scheduling, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
• USACE and Lean construction experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and oversee site mobilization, temporary facilities, manpower, labor relations, and construction logistics.
• Support project estimating, schedule development, and preparation of subcontractor scopes of work.
• Coordinate subcontractors and the site team to maintain safe, efficient, and schedule-driven operations.
• Develop daily work plans and detailed schedules, resolving conflicts among the client, Sauer, and subcontractors.
• Supervise field activities and review manpower requests for craft labor.
• Participate in construction planning and recommend practical solutions to field issues.
• Communicate professionally with government representatives, clients, subcontractors, and project team members.
