Job Overview
A law firm is seeking a Senior Family Law Attorney to join its team in the California Bay Area. This position will involve handling a variety of family law cases, including divorce, child custody, support, and property division matters. The Senior Attorney will be responsible for representing clients in court, managing complex legal research, preparing pleadings and motions, and collaborating with the team to provide high-quality client service. This role offers the flexibility of a primarily work-from-home setup with occasional in-person court and client meetings.

Duties

  1. Handle a variety of family law cases, including divorce, custody, support, and property division matters.
  2. Represent clients in court, making necessary in-court appearances.
  3. Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, and briefs to support client cases.
  4. Meet with clients as requested, providing legal advice and updates on case status.
  5. Collaborate with paralegals, fellow attorneys, and administrative staff to efficiently manage cases.
  6. Attend mediation and settlement conferences to negotiate favorable outcomes.
  7. Maintain strong communication with clients, ensuring they feel supported throughout the legal process.
  8. Stay current on legal developments and trends in family law to offer the best possible representation.
  9. Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  1. Minimum of 4 years of experience in family law.
  2. Active admission to the California State Bar and in good standing.
  3. Exceptional writing skills, with writing samples required.
  4. Strong verbal communication skills, able to explain complex legal issues to clients.
  5. Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  6. Client-focused mindset with a commitment to providing exceptional client service.
  7. Strong professional references.

Education

  1. Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  1. Active membership in the California State Bar (required).

Skills

  1. Ability to communicate professionally and interact effectively with clients, court staff, and opposing counsel.
  2. Proven ability to handle various family law matters, including divorce, child custody, and property division.
  3. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple cases simultaneously.
