Job summary

Mid-States Companies through its design and engineering division, MDE, seeks a Senior Designer to lead facility and plant design across grain handling and bulk facilities in Nevada, Iowa. You will own layout authority, coordinate with the Material Handling Engineering Lead, and ensure code compliance and lifecycle cost awareness.

You will mentor designers, develop standards, and oversee scope, schedule, and budget while traveling to customer sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6+ years of facility, plant, or site design in grain, bulk handling, or industrial settings.
• Proficiency in Revit and related Autodesk tools.
• Associate degree or higher in drafting, design, engineering technology, or related field.
• Willing to travel up to 15% to sites and partner offices.
• Strong layout, planning, and equipment arrangement judgment.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex facility layouts and GA drawings with equipment placement.
• Coordinate with material handling engineering to integrate equipment into layouts.
• Balance site constraints, operations, code requirements, and budget.
• Review and sign off GA work before ER or customer delivery.
• Research compliance with OSHA, MSHA, IBC, IFC, NFPA codes and standards.
• Own facility design standards, drawing conventions, and review checklists.
• Mentor designers and detailers; lead internal training on layout and process flow.
• Establish design scope, schedule, and budget; manage RFIs and submittals.
• Travel up to 15% to sites and partner offices.
