POSITION: Sr. Facilities Technician

SALARY: $24.03 to $28.55 per hour, DOE

REPORTS TO: I.T. Outside Plant Manager

LOCATION: Information Technology Dept., Nespelem, WA

Basic Functions: This is a Non-Exempt position. The Sr. Support Technician is a staff position serving in a technical-level capacity to Tribal departments and services and to participating agencies using Tribal systems. This position requires advanced knowledge of and the ability to design and administer local and wide-area networks and infrastructure, redundancy, and security. This position also requires the ability to integrate various equipment and provide sufficient architecture expertise for current and anticipated bandwidth needs and establish controls and permissions ensuring the security and integrity of data and stability of connectivity.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED
  • Requires 18 Months experience in Facility management, HVAC, Grounding, AC/DC Power, Cabling, Fiber, Outside Plant Infrastructure, construction or related fields, managing projects, supervisory experience in working with teams, developing work plans, reading blueprints, understanding Building Codes and Standards. Permitting, fire suppression, fire and building alarm, Security Camera. BICSI.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project Planning: Provides input during project planning and requirements phase.
  • Business Continuity: Assists customers with recovery issues.
  • Vendor Management: Serves as liaison between internal stakeholders and vendors.
  • Coaching and Mentoring: Mentors less experienced personnel.
  • Problem Resolution: Responds to Tier I or II support requests via multiple sources such as phone and e-mail. Enter call data into the tracking system. Interacts with customers in a courteous and professional manner. Diagnoses escalated customer problems using checklists, previous experience and training. Documents problem status and resolution. Escalates when necessary. Performs root cause analysis and develops checklists for typical problems. Coordinates the resolution of Network and Telecommunications Infrastructure problems. Assists systems and programming professionals, as needed. Creates temporary solutions until permanent solutions can be implemented.
  • Recurring Problem Identification and Resolution: Identifies recurring and potential problems and notifies team members. Recommends procedures and controls for prevention. Recommends ideas for improving queue time, abandoned call rates and first contact resolution.
  • Issue Research: Research trouble issues. Evaluates multiple options to resolve customer problems.
  • Communication: Documents and coordinate updates on issues to ensure customer satisfaction and productivity. Generates activity and status reports and builds business relationships with customers.
  • Vendor Support and Management: Works with vendor technical support personnel on solutions for customers.
  • Service Level Management: Is aware of service level agreement targets. Take steps to meet or exceed requirements. Explains service procedures to customers and clients.
  • Ability to read and interpret as-built diagrams for inside and outside cable plant and network.
  • Reviews and assists in the documentation of lessons learned to develop quick reference guides and job aids on noted repeat problem solutions related to hardware and software.
  • Prepares Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and Job Aids to create a positive customer experience and minimize handling time.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned employees.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of terms and uses of telecommunications and networking wiring CAT5e, CAT 6 and Optical Fiber standards, troubleshooting and managing all low voltage cabling.
  • Basic knowledge of current IT and telecommunications literature, produce solutions, cable standards, and telecommunications trends. Knowledge of networking, basic cable management and optical fiber.
  • Knowledge of quality principles and tools, especially root cause analysis and problem solving.
  • Skill in effectively planning, organizing, controlling and supervising the work of subordinates.
  • Skill in establishing and communicating clear expectations regarding work performance for both the individual and/or team.
  • Skill in a variety of communication methods to present complex issues to diverse audiences.
  • Skill in creating an environment for improving customer satisfaction and promotes an atmosphere that establishes customer satisfaction as a key value in the organization.
  • Skill in utilizing a personal computer and utilizing associated software programs.
  • Knowledge of system environments.
  • Novice knowledge of various switches and routers for use in Private and carrier-based optical WAN and MAN networks across multiple data centers utilizing MPLS and advanced routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP.
  • Novice knowledge of commercial enterprise-level tools and products to provide core network services including: firewalls, IPS/IDS, DNS, DHCP, web security, email security, VPN, and NAC.
  • Novice knowledge of VOIP telephony products.
  • Novice knowledge of enterprise system monitoring and management tools such as SolarWinds Orion Suite, etc.
  • Novice knowledge of Coaxial, fiber, and copper structured cabling for core, aggregation, distribution, and access layer networks.
  • Knowledge of basic to moderately complex hardware and software products.
  • Knowledge of Internet Protocols & Networking understanding
  • Skill in problem solving/troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of basic hardware and software products.
  • Skills in the use of computers, MS office 2003/2007/2010, and associated software within the MS-Windows 7 and XP environment.
  • Knowledge of current organizational hardware and software capabilities.
  • Ability to learn and apply all Tribal and Division processes, policies and procedures (i.e. TOSHA, TERO and Tribal Codes).
  • Ability to use mobile and/or PC technology, computer operating systems, network printer configuration and mobile device configuration in Windows and Mac.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Tribal staff and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Type 40 wpm and pass a standardized grammar test

  • Ability to manage by establishing operational plans, including goals and objectives with measurable results, within specified timeframes.

  • Ability to establish and meet deadlines. Ability to perform root cause analysis on various types of system and equipment issues.
  • Ability to utilize computers, laptops, iPads, iPhones, Network Analyzers, Conversion cables, Copper and Fiber test equipment.
  • Ability to be a positive influence on team building. Ability to succeed as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
