Job summary

SUNY Geneseo—New York’s Public Honors College—seeks an Assistant Director of Planning, Design & Construction to lead and oversee capital and campus projects. Therole focuses on planning, design, and construction phases, ensuring safety, sustainability, and alignment with institutional goals.

Reporting to the Director, this senior role requires strong technical judgment, excellent communication, and the ability to manage complex projects in a dynamic university environment.

Qualifications

• Associate degree with 8+ years in planning, design, construction, or facilities project management or Bachelor’s with 5+ years related experience.
• Experience managing capital or campus construction projects.
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents, drawings, and specifications.
• NYS Building Official or ability to obtain within 1 year of appointment.
• Experience with project budgeting, cost estimating, and scheduling.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam/Adobe, and project management platforms (Procore, Newforma, Autodesk Build).
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem solving skills.
• Valid NYS driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, technical expertise, and project oversight across all phases of planning, design, and construction.
• Serve as senior project leader, code compliance authority, and supervisor for project management staff.
• Ensure campus projects meet SUNY, SUCF, OGS, DASNY, and NYS regulatory requirements while supporting Geneseo’s priorities and sustainability goals.
