Job summary

The City of Riverbank is seeking a Senior Facilities Maintenance Worker to lead maintenance, cleaning, and limited construction across City buildings, including City Hall and the Community Center. Responsibilities

  • Lead, review, assign and perform semi‑skilled and skilled maintenance, limited construction, repair, and cleaning of City buildings.
  • Direct subordinate staff; train new employees; supervise cleaning and maintenance of assigned buildings.
  • Perform routine floor care, restroom cleaning, waste management, carpet cleaning, window washing, and furniture polishing.
  • Carry out minor plumbing work, drain/urinal/toilet clearing, and maintenance of fixtures; replace bulbs.
  • Assist with repairs or construction, paint buildings, manage debris, maintain planters, set up for events, and manage supplies.
  • Respond to after-hours needs as assigned and maintain records of chemicals and time/materials.

Senior Facilities Maintenance Worker

The City of Riverbank is seeking a skilled and dependable Senior Facilities Maintenance Worker to join our Parks and Recreation team. Under general supervision, leads and participates in the maintenance, limited construction, and cleaning of all City buildings and facilities; performs other related duties as required.

The ideal candidate performs skilled cleaning, janitorial work, and maintenance tasks in the City's building and facilities and provide supervision to assigned staff when required. This classification is distinguished from the next higher class of Parks and Facilities Supervisor in that the latter has supervisory responsibility for all parks and facilities operations.

Essential Functions
  • Leads, reviews, assigns, and performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance, limited construction, repair, and cleaning of City buildings and facilities, including City Hall, the Community Center, Scout Hall, the Police Department, the Corporate Yard, and other City buildings and facilities as required.
  • Assigns and directs subordinate staff; trains new employees; and supervises and participates in cleaning and maintaining assigned buildings.
  • Sweeps, mops, strips, and waxes floors; cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies; empties trash containers; shampoos carpets; washes windows; and cleans, dusts, and polishes furniture.
  • Leads and performs minor plumbing work as needed; unplugs drains, urinals, and toilets; performs routine maintenance on valves, fittings, and other fixtures; replaces light bulbs, including fluorescent bulbs, as needed; and may work at elevated levels to replace light bulbs or perform minor roof maintenance.
  • Assists with minor repairs or construction as needed; troubleshoots issues and reports findings to appropriate personnel; paints buildings and facilities as needed; removes debris from sidewalks near assigned City buildings; and maintains planters in front of City Hall.
  • Sets up for events at the Community Center and City Hall; moves tables, chairs, and furniture.
  • Determines when repairs or replacements are needed for City buildings and facilities; updates Material Safety Data Sheets.
  • May respond to after-hours call‑outs, emergencies, and urgent facility maintenance needs as assigned.
  • In accordance with established procedures, purchases materials, equipment, and supplies necessary to complete the maintenance or repair task; maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and materials; maintains accurate records of chemicals and their use at assigned stations; and estimates time, materials, and equipment needed for various projects.
  • Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state and local agencies, City management and staff, and the public.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of related general facility repair and maintenance experience, including at least two years at the journey level comparable to a Facilities Maintenance Worker II in the City of Riverbank.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
License/Certificate
  • Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License may be required if driving is necessary to perform assigned duties and alternative transportation is not comparable in travel time or cost.

Salary
  • $28.29 - $34.39 Hourly
  • $2,263.47 - $2,751.26 Biweekly
  • $4,904.18 - $5,961.07 Monthly
  • $58,850.21 - $71,532.80 Annually

  • CalPERS Retirement: The City participates in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). New members, as defined by PEPRA, are under a 2% @ 62 formula, Tier III.
  • Health Benefits: The City offers Kaiser Permanente or Health Net medical coverage and pays 85% of medical insurance premium; employee contribute 15% of their monthly premium. The City currently pays 100% of the cost of the Stanislaus Medical Foundation Dental plan and Vision Service Plan (VSP) for employee and their eligible dependents.
  • Life Insurance: $50,000 paid by the City
  • Union Pension Plan: City contributes approximately $392 per month
  • Deferred Compensation: Employee's voluntary contribution in the amount of at least $75 is matched and not to exceed $75 by the City per pay period
