Job summary

The Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC seeks a Facilities Planning and Operations Manager to lead planning, design, and management of facilities, exhibitions, animal habitats, and related infrastructure.

You will oversee maintenance, capital projects, budgets, and schedules, directing multidisciplinary staff to ensure safe, efficient operations that align with institutional priorities.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-14 in the Federal Service.
• Experience managing facilities, construction, renovation and exhibition projects in a zoo, aquarium, museum, animal-care or research facility.
• Resume must be no more than two pages and clearly show alignment with responsibilities and specialized experience.

Responsibilities

• Direct strategic planning, design, and management of facilities, exhibitions, animal habitats, and related infrastructure.
• Oversees facility maintenance, repair programs, and long-range capital improvement initiatives to ensure compliance and organizational priorities are met.
• Develops and implements annual budgets for capital and maintenance projects, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and operational needs.
• Supervises multidisciplinary staff, assigns work, adjusts priorities, and manages schedules to ensure efficient program execution.
