Job summary

Commonwealth Lodging Management is seeking a Chief Engineer to oversee the hotel’s engineering department, ensuring proper operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and mechanical equipment. This role supervises and trains staff, coordinates maintenance programs, and safeguards guest comfort and safety.

The position requires strong leadership, budgeting, and vendor coordination skills, with a focus on energy efficiency and compliance across 24/7 operations.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): or Work Equivalent.
• Minimum 2-3 years of supervisory and maintenance experience.
• Good understanding of the English language and communication skills both written and verbal.
• Experience in advanced maintenance skills and aptitude plus advanced skills in all aspects of running an engineering department.
• Experience with modern building controls and maintenance, or any combination of education and experience which provides the above skills, knowledge and ability.
• Computer skills required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office preferred. Experience with hotel systems such as MICROS is preferred
• Methods, and materials used in general building maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, building and electrical units and HVAC. The use and repair of common tools and equipment used in general maintenance. Maintenance and repair of major facilities. Systems design and trouble- shooting. Journeyman skill level in the use of tools and equipment of the maintenance profession.

Responsibilities

• Ensure proper staffing procedures to ensure the highest possible payroll productivity at the lowest possible costs in keeping with the standards of the management company.
• Interview, train, supervise, counsel, schedule and evaluate staff.
• Always maintain positive guest relations. Work to resolve guest complaints, ensuring guestsatisfaction and communicating effectively with guests as well as team members.
• Inspects and monitors buildings, equipment and grounds to determine maintenance and preventive maintenance requirements.
• Develops work procedures and assigns personnel to give the best services and productivity.
• Prepares and submits cost estimates and repair options including suggestions as to feasibility, logical solution and actual needs of a departmental maintenance request.
