Job summary

Union Settlement in East Harlem seeks a Senior Manager, Facilities and Capital Improvements to oversee maintenance, safety, and capital projects across multiple program sites. You will supervise the Facilities Supervisor, manage daily operations, and lead renovation efforts to keep environments welcoming, functional, and compliant.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum of 7 years of facilities operations and capital project management experience, with at least 2 years supervising staff.
• Experience managing multi-site nonprofit or institutional facilities in New York City strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of building systems, NYC building codes, public funding sources (HPD, HDC, etc.), and project management best practices.
• Experience managing construction, renovation, and infrastructure projects from planning and procurement through completion and closeout.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, contracts, and multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day facilities operations across multiple program sites.
• Supervise Facilities Supervisors and coordinate custodial and maintenance activities.
• Oversee building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, elevators, fire safety).
• Ensure compliance with city, state, and federal regulations (OSHA, DOHMH, FDNY).
• Oversee FDNY compliance including permits, fire life-safety systems, inspections, and renewals.
• Lead planning and implementation of capital improvement projects.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and city agencies to secure permits and funding.
• Track milestones, manage budgets and timelines, and communicate with stakeholders.
• Advocate for ADA compliance, energy efficiency, and sustainability initiatives.
• Develop and manage annual facilities and capital budgets with Finance.
• Maintain records of assets, inspections, and maintenance schedules.
• Ensure lease, codes, and insurance compliance.
• Manage relationships with vendors and service providers; negotiate service agreements.
• Promote safety, accountability, and excellence across the facilities team.
• Support emergency preparedness, risk management, and business continuity efforts.
