Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America, Inc. is seeking a senior Export Compliance Counsel to guide the company on U.S. export control regulations, with emphasis on software, encryption, and technology classification.

This on-site role in Atlanta partners with Engineering, Procurement, HR and IT to manage licensing, classification, and recordkeeping. The ideal candidate has JD with bar admission, 7+ years of experience, and the ability to translate complex rules into practical

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited US law school and bar admission in good standing.
• 7+ years combined law firm and in-house trade compliance experience.
• Deep expertise in US export controls (EAR/ITAR) and ECCN/classification.
• Ability to translate complex legal concepts into business-friendly guidance.
• Experience leading and mentoring teams with cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical guidance on export regulation compliance for engineering and executives.
• Manage development and operation of the company’s export control program.
• Classify products, determine ECCNs, and oversee license submissions.
• Lead, mentor, and coordinate export compliance teams and cross-functional groups.
• Conduct risk assessments and socialization of regulatory updates with stakeholders.
