Job summary

Selective Insurance, a leading U.S. property and casualty insurer, seeks a Senior Underwriting Manager to lead a territory in Excess & Surplus lines. You will coach an underwriting team, drive growth and profitability, and align with company strategy, while ensuring regulatory compliance.

You will develop agency relationships, monitor performance, and participate in pricing reviews, audits, and management reporting. Travel up to 25% is required, valid driver's license necessary.

Qualifications

• Broad underwriting technical background.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Good analytical skills.
• Proficient with Word, Excel & Outlook.
• Must have a valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Manages, coordinates, directs and monitors activities and results of an underwriting team to obtain and ensure accurate, quality work while maintaining high production standards.
• Oversees training and development of staff and provides guidance to staff.
• Reviews and recommends procedural changes and keeps current on changes affecting unit's work production and the insurance industry.
• Monitors achievement of the region's premium and profitability goals and ensures agents meet expectations.
• Arbitrate problems between agents, insureds, or other departments.
• Executes monthly and quarterly reports for management of the territory.
• Testifies in court or participates in depositions as needed on claims or coverage issues.
