Job summary

Jobot is seeking a Senior Estimator for structural steel in California. You will review bid Invitations, read drawings, and prepare detailed takeoffs and full cost estimates for structural steel and related materials.

Collaboration with PM and production teams is essential to ensure accurate bids and on-time delivery. Responsibilities include analyzing data, coordinating with purchasing, and leading pre-bid and post-bid activities to protect margins and improve project outcomes.

Qualifications

• 7+ years hands-on estimating experience.
• Ability to prepare accurate, competitive bids for structural steel fabrication.
• Ability to perform detailed takeoffs and develop full cost estimates.
• Proficient with estimating software such as FabSuite, FabTrol, Tekla EPM, or similar.
• Solid understanding of AISC standards and fabrication processes.
• Experience working collaboratively with project management, and production teams.

Responsibilities

• Review bid invitations, drawings, and specifications to determine project scope and requirements.
• Prepare detailed takeoffs for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and related materials.
• Prepare estimate prices on change orders on existing contracts assuring proper accounting.
• Read and understand job bid instructions and detailed specifications.
• Estimate all necessary labor, materials, buyout items and equipment costs.
• Analyze historical data and current market pricing to ensure competitive and accurate bids.
• Ensure projects meet cost requirements.
• Meet with Sr. Project Manager if costs exceed budget and obtain permission before approving out-of-budget costs.
• Interface with necessary department and subcontractors to determine the scheduling of work and materials.
• Coordinate with Purchasing to obtain vendor and subcontractor pricing.
• Meet with key personnel to ensure timelines of each project.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, and post-bid negotiations.
• Meet and confer with Owner, Architect, Engineers, Contractors, Detailers, Plant & Field crews to verify accuracy & completeness of all construction drawings
• Reviews plans and proposals to determine proper procedures in order to accomplish company goals
• Ensure all aspects of projects are properly and thoroughly documented to ensure our interests are protected
• Implementation of goals to increase our Steel Fab, Inc.’s reputation with General Contractors.
