Job description

The Preconstruction Manager/Sr. Estimator bids and wins highly profitable and feasibly constructible projects by developing pricing strategies to maximize profits, cash flow, and avoid losses during construction.

The ideal candidate will coordinate bid documents, labor productions, subcontractor and vendor pricing, buyouts, relationships, start-up meetings, owner estimates, requisitions, and cost-to-completes. This role manages the project bid cycle and the preconstruction phase as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Investigate specifications, scope of work, drawings, and RFP documents to understand requirements.
• Perform takeoffs and calculations accurately and timely, analyzing data thoroughly.
• Understand contract documents and project risks; recommend mitigation and pricing strategies.
• Visit project sites to gather data, verify conditions, and incorporate findings into bids.
• Attend cost-to-complete meetings and apply lessons learned to future bids.
• Negotiate costs, quality, and delivery using company procedures.
• Collaborate with Business Development and Contracts teams to address risks and issues.
• Develop and implement pricing strategies.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously with excellent multitasking skills.
• Communicate effectively with subcontractors and vendors, ensuring NDAs and Terms and Conditions are in place before sharing bid information.
• Coordinate with teams to produce competitive bid proposals, ensuring timely completion.
• Draft detailed proposals, including pricing and clarifications, per RFP specs.
• Ensure all contracts and purchase orders are complete, executed, and documented properly.
• Oversee project startup deliverables and adherence to schedules.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or minimum 7 years relevant experience; energy industry experience preferred.
• At least 2 years of construction estimating experience required.
• Strong teamwork, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and understanding of civil, structural, electrical plans.
• Knowledge of NEC, industry standards, and certifications like NABCEP preferred.
• Experience with Primavera, Microsoft Project, HCSS, Bluebeam, or similar software advantageous.
• Knowledge of estimating, engineering, cost tracking, EPC contracts, and construction preferred.
