Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Senior Estimator to lead estimating efforts for large and complex projects. You will supervise a team, develop conceptual and detailed estimates, and coordinate pricing, scheduling, and submissions with owners, architects, and engineers.

The role requires a strong background in construction estimating, leadership ability, and proficiency with ISqFt, Bid2Win, OST, Bluebeam, and Google Earth. Denver, CO office preferred; EOE.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in construction-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Nine+ years in the construction industry with estimating experience.
  • LEED AP or DBIA a plus; strong leadership and organization.

Job description

Senior Estimator

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Senior Estimator who can interact with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Senior Estimator will provide leadership, coordination, and final preparation of full estimates on large and complex work projects.

Responsibilities
  • Lead estimating efforts on large and complex projects
  • Provide conceptual, detailed, self‑perform work estimates, and cost models
  • Organize, research, and strategically plan for estimate preparation, pricing, scheduling, and submission
  • Determine subcontractors for bidding process and final estimate pricing
  • Assign work to estimating team and ensure accurate information is incorporated
  • Conduct quantity surveys, cost estimates, and review subcontractor proposals
  • Research tax laws, collective bargaining agreements, and permits
  • Write and submit Requests for Information
  • Maintain regular communication with team members, owners, architects, and engineers
  • Ensure understanding of project scope and updates among team members and subcontractors
  • Research and analyze historical project data for current applications
  • Assist in selecting building systems and software programs
  • Assist in project scheduling
  • Lead, train, mentor, and manage estimators, including performance evaluations
Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum nine years of construction industry experience
  • Six years of construction estimating experience
  • LEED AP, DBIA professional designation preferred
  • Organized, detail‑oriented with proven ability to manage multiple, complex projects
  • Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
  • Positive, professional attitude with strong customer service skills
  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem‑solving, and leadership skills
  • Solid mathematical skills
  • Proficient with building/estimating techniques and software, including ISqFt, ICE/Bid2Win, On‑Screen Takeoff (OST), Bluebeam/PDF, and Google Earth
  • Current driver’s license

Compensation

The base pay range for this role is $128,200 – $192,300, with higher ranges for specific office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL (5% premium), Seattle, WA and Portland, OR (10% premium), Washington, D.C. (12.5% premium). Base pay is positioned within this range based on knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
