Job summary

Markent Personnel seeks a hands-on Senior Estimator – Heavy Civil in Southern California. The role focuses on leading detailed estimates for self-performing projects, coordinating with operations and leadership to shape bid strategies and risk analysis.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in heavy civil estimating, strong knowledge of underground utilities, earthwork, asphalt, and concrete, and a track record of delivering competitive bids for public works and transportation projects.

Qualifications

• Ten+ years of heavy civil estimating experience.
• Experience estimating for a self-performing heavy civil contractor.
• Ability to read and interpret complex civil plans and specifications.
• Strong knowledge of the Southern California heavy civil market.
• Experience bidding public works and transportation projects.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and meet bid deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead preparation of detailed estimates and bids for heavy civil infrastructure projects.
• Review plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, contracts, addenda to determine scope.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for self-performed and subcontracted scopes.
• Develop labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and indirect costs.
• Lead subcontractor and supplier negotiations and bid leveling.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct project site visits.
• Coordinate with Project Managers and Superintendents to validate approach and schedules.
• Mentor and develop junior estimators and estimating staff.
• Maintain historical cost and production data to improve estimating accuracy.
