Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a seasoned estimator to prepare and manage design/build, engineer, construction management, and hard-bid estimates. The role involves evaluating bids, performing quantity take-offs, and coordinating subcontractor pricing.

You will guide junior staff, manage bid day activities, and coordinate with corporate estimating groups. Travel 20%–40% is expected, with risk and scope managed across multiple trades.

• Thorough knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing.
• Reads and comprehends drawings and specifications and identify missing elements during design development.
• Ability to estimate many types of projects/contracts.
• Excellent multi-tasking and meeting deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare design/build, engineer, construction management, guaranteed maximum price and hard-bid estimates/proposals.
• Analyze quotations prior to bid day and during bid day.
• Evaluate bids of sub-contractors and suppliers for scope, delivery time and specs.
• Enter quantity take-offs and material unit pricing for projects.
• Develop subcontractor and vendor scopes and ensure completeness.
• Coordinate with estimating functions across projects.
• Provide guidance to junior staff on estimating procedures and software.
• Manage bid day and close out activities.
• Assist in overall corporate estimating coordination.
• Contact subcontractors and suppliers for outsource pricing.
