The essential role of this position is to:

Primarily responsible for estimating construction projects, including setting up new bids, issuing bid documents, tracking subcontractor responses, maintaining the subcontractor database, bidding all construction divisions, tracking estimating statistics, and pricing change orders.

Responsibilities:
  1. Estimate projects by taking off assigned scopes of work and understanding project requirements. Select appropriate metrics for accurate estimates.
  2. Prepare detailed reports or bids for submission.
  3. Evaluate offers and quotes to select advantageous deals.
  4. Analyze data, produce forecasts, and perform risk assessments.
  5. Coordinate with Operations to ensure a clear understanding of the scope of work.
  6. Review specifications and drawings, visit sites, attend pre-bid meetings to gather information, and prepare scopes of work and budgets.
  7. Ensure sufficient subcontractor coverage for each bid.
  8. Prepare bid general conditions and review with operations before submission.
  9. Assist with pricing change orders as needed.
  10. Maintain and track bid results for proposed projects.
  11. Build relationships with key vendors, subcontractors, and architects.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills required:
  1. Proven experience as a construction estimator.
  2. Thorough knowledge of Federal Government procurement methods, including hard bids, IDIQ, and task order contracts.
  3. Understanding of the Design-Build process.
  4. Knowledge of Metro Washington DC subcontractors and ability to collaborate during bids.
  5. Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively.
  6. Strong computer skills and familiarity with construction software.
  7. Ability to generate accurate take-offs.
  8. Understanding of bid instructions and detailed specifications.
  9. Excellent communication and analytical skills.
Basic requirements:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  2. At least 5 years of progressive experience in construction estimating.
  3. Knowledge of all construction divisions.
