Job summary

Engtal in Columbus, OH is seeking a Senior Estimator to lead detailed estimates for major commercial projects across healthcare, higher education, industrial, and institutional sectors in Central Ohio. You will develop budgets, perform takeoffs, analyze drawings and bids, and coordinate with PMs and operations to deliver accurate, competitive estimates.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in commercial construction estimating.

Responsibilities

• Lead detailed estimates and competitive bids for large commercial construction projects.
• Develop conceptual budgets, quantity takeoffs, and estimates through design phases.
• Analyze drawings, specifications, subcontractor proposals, and project scopes.
• Manage subcontractor outreach, bid solicitation, scope reviews, and bid leveling.
• Identify cost risks, scope gaps, constructability concerns, and value-engineering opportunities.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and operations leadership.
• Maintain cost data, monitor market pricing, and develop competitive estimates.
• Support junior estimators and improve estimating processes.

A highly respected, established Columbus-based General Contractor / Construction Manager is looking to add an experienced Senior Estimator to its growing team.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead detailed estimates and competitive bids for large commercial construction projects
• Develop conceptual budgets, quantity takeoffs, and estimates throughout all phases of design
• Analyze drawings, specifications, subcontractor proposals, and project scopes
• Manage subcontractor outreach, bid solicitation, scope reviews, and bid leveling
• Identify cost risks, scope gaps, constructability concerns, and value-engineering opportunities
• Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and operations leadership
• Maintain accurate cost data, monitor market pricing, and develop competitive estimates
• Support junior estimators and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes

What They're Looking For

• 5+ years of commercial construction estimating experience
• General Contractor / Construction Manager background strongly preferred
• Experience estimating complex commercial construction projects, ideally $20M+
• Strong knowledge of quantity takeoffs, subcontractor scopes, bid leveling, and cost analysis
• Experience across healthcare, higher education, industrial, institutional, or similar commercial sectors
• Ability to independently manage estimates and coordinate multiple bid packages
• Proficiency with estimating software, Bluebeam, and related tools
• Construction Management, Engineering, or related degree preferred; equivalent experience considered
• $115K–$155K+ base salary, depending on experience
