Job summary

CTS Excavations in North Alabama is seeking a Senior Estimator to lead preconstruction on heavy civil and excavation projects. You will prepare detailed estimates, review plans and bid documents, and develop pricing for labor, equipment, and subcontractors.

Ideal candidates have 5–8 years of estimating in civil construction, strong earthwork knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple bids while meeting deadlines. Local field experience and Procore/AGTEK familiarity are pluses.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of estimating experience in civil construction, excavation, or heavy highway/sitework.
• Strong knowledge of earthwork, grading, underground utilities, and site development.
• Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and contracts.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple bids while meeting deadlines.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil and excavation projects.
• Review plans, specifications, contracts, and bid documents.
• Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for: Earthwork, Mass grading, Storm drainage, Demolition, Concrete and paving.
• Develop labor, equipment, trucking, material, and subcontractor pricing.
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes.
• Identify project risks, exclusions, and value engineering opportunities.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and project site visits.
• Prepare complete bid packages and submit proposals on time.
• Partner with Project Managers and Operations during project turnover.
• Maintain historical cost data and continuously improve estimating accuracy.
• Build strong relationships with owners, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
