Job summary

Chesapeake Contracting Group is seeking a Construction Cost Estimator in Maryland to analyze project documents and develop detailed cost estimates. You will perform quantity takeoffs, prepare bid tabulations, and support the bid lifecycle from conceptual budgeting through award.

You will collaborate with subcontractors, suppliers, and the project team to validate scope, identify risk, and ensure accurate, competitive proposals while upholding our Core Values in a high-pressure environment.

Qualifications

• Proficiency with estimating software including Bluebeam and On-Screen Takeoff.
• Strong mathematical and computer skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Expertise in Division 2–16 trades.

Responsibilities

• Analyze project documents to determine overall estimated project cost.
• Gather, calculate, and compile data for construction cost estimates and bid proposals.
• Perform turnover of awarded projects to the project management team.
• Guide teams through the full bid lifecycle and ensure smooth handovers.
• Review project plans to confirm complete and coordinated scope.
• Identify risk issues and their magnitudes.
• Manage responses to invitations to bid.
• Perform quantity takeoffs.
• Contribute to conceptual budgets with manager oversight.
• Develop tab sheets and scopes of work; gather subcontractor proposals; prepare bid tabulations.
• Coordinate scopes of work with the bid team.
• Author qualifications and exclusions for assigned trades.
• Build relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups.
• Develop subcontractor relationships and attend networking events.

Requirements

• Expertise in the majority of trades in Divisions 2–16
• Ability to work as a team member and in a team environment
• Ability to professionally communicate and perform in a highly stressed environment

• Effective oral and written communication skills
