Job summary

Jobtailor in Maryland is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to analyze project documents and produce comprehensive cost estimates for bids. You will turn over awarded projects to the PM team, review plans with the group, and identify risks early to keep bids competitive.

The role requires 5+ years in estimating, strong math and software skills, and proficiency with MS Office and On-Screen Takeoff. Full-time on-site position with collaboration across trades.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years estimating or relevant project experience.
  • Proficiency with estimating software, especially On-Screen Takeoff.
  • Strong mathematical and computer skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience in Division 2-16 is preferred.

Responsibilities

Job description


  • Analyze all project documents to determine the overall estimated cost of a project

  • Gather, calculate, and compile data to produce construction cost estimates for competitive bid proposals in a timely manner

  • Perform thorough and detailed turnover of awarded projects to the project management team

  • Review project plans and specifications and coordinate with the team to confirm a complete and coordinated scope

  • Identify risk issues and their order of magnitude

  • Manage responses to invitations to bid

  • Perform quantity takeoff

  • Participate in conceptual budgets with oversight from manager

  • Develop tab sheets (scopes of work), gather subcontractor proposals, and prepare bid tabulation for assigned trades

  • Coordinate scopes of work with the bid team

  • Author qualifications/exclusions specific for each assigned trade

  • Build effective relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups

  • Develop subcontractor relationships

  • Attend subcontractor networking events


Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent related work experience

  • Minimum of 5 or more years estimating or relevant project experience

  • Proficiency in all computer software programs used in estimating, with particular emphasis on On-Screen Takeoff software

  • Strong mathematical and computer skills

  • Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Some experience in one or more areas of Division 2-16
