Job summary

Southland Industries seeks an experienced estimator to prepare preliminary, conceptual, and detailed budgets for medium to large projects. You will analyze drawings, perform material take-offs, and price units with software tools.

You will collaborate with senior leaders to finalize FEBs, present bids to executives, and generate review-ready reports. The role includes mentoring junior estimators and staying current with industry practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; trade school acceptable
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience including managing people
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong analytical skills and cost data interpretation
• Ability to read specifications and drawings; knowledge of construction costs

Responsibilities

• Prepare preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates and detailed estimates
• Analyze drawings and perform material take-offs using software
• Collaborate with Lead Estimator or Chief Estimator to finalize FEB and bids
• Present bids to Project Executives and Project Managers
• Generate reports and interpret them for project reviews

Job description

Prepares preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates and detail estimates generally for medium-size to larger projects with experience in one or more trades.

• Analyzesdrawings anduses applicable software toperform material take-offsfor detailed estimates and provides unit cost pricing. Ensures potential issues with estimates are discussed withmanager.
• Performs more complexred-liningof documents.
• Partners with Lead Estimator or Chief Estimator tofinalizeField Estimate and Bid (FEB). Presents bids to Project Executives and Project Managers.
• Generates reports and interprets them for Project Review. Transfers informationin tofinal review format and builds FEB for review.
• Participates in client interview meetings to discuss project.
• Stays current with best practices and shares information withteamas necessary.
• Trains and mentors less-experienced Estimators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Engineeringpreferred, or trade school or equivalent combination of technical training and or related experience
• Minimum 5years’relevant experience,including managing people
• Strongverbal and written communication skills.
• Stronganalytical skills
• Strongability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
• Strongability to read and understand specifications and drawings
• Strongknowledge of construction costs and principles
• Strong ability to perform mathematical calculations and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and prorations to practical situations

• Strong knowledge of Quick Pen Auto Bid Mechanical and Sheet Metal Estimating software
