Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an experienced estimator to prepare preliminary budgets and detailed estimates for small to medium-size projects. You will analyze drawings, perform material take-offs, and price unit costs while coordinating with internal teams.

Responsibilities include bid package development, tracking quantities, and resolving discrepancies. The role involves soliciting subcontractor bids and reviewing RFPs to define scope and content of estimates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CM or Engineering preferred; trade school acceptable.

Job description

Prepares preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates and detail estimates generally for small to medium-size projects with experience generally in specific trade

• Analyzes drawings and uses applicable software to perform material take-offs for detailed estimates and provides unit cost pricing.
• Performs basicred-liningof documents as needed.
• Assistswith developing project updates and bid package estimatedocuments’comparison. Tracks andadjustsquantities as needed. Resolves discrepancies.
• Solicits subcontractor bids and partners with vendors to build relationships and obtain quotes.
• Reviews Request for Proposals (RFPs), Basis of Design and drawings todeterminescope of work andrequiredcontents of estimate.
• Presents information and responds to questions from internal departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction ManagementorEngineeringpreferred, or trade school or equivalent combination of technical trainingand orrelated experience
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in mechanical construction estimating
• Solid verbal and written communication skills.
• Solid analytical skills
• Solid ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
• Solid ability to read and understand specifications and drawings
• Solid knowledge of construction costs and principles
• Solid ability to perform mathematical calculations and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and prorations to practical situations
• Solid Excel and Word skills
• Solid knowledge of Quick Pen Auto Bid Mechanical and Sheet Metal Estimating software
