Job Summary
Cost Estimator – supporting power generation projects. Preference for candidate located in Houston, TX. Other considered locations: Mt. Laurel, NJ. Work involves large‑scale electrical, mechanical, heavy civil projects across various development stages.
Responsibilities
- Confer with designers, consultants and contractors to coordinate and establish detailed cost estimates for construction projects.
- Prepare and facilitate the preparation of detailed cost estimates for all phases of design and/or construction.
- Supervise the development of quantity surveys and cost evaluations relating to design documents, contract drawings, specifications or contract changes.
- Review and report on contract estimates prepared by consultants; recommend if the estimate is appropriate for client implementation.
- Review contractor proposals, compare them to scope of work, determine fair and reasonable value of work, and delineate cost by trade and discipline.
- Communicate with contractors and sub‑contractors to explain the client’s point of view on reasonable cost of work.
- Participate in cost negotiations.
- Plan, assign and review the cost estimating work of estimates.
- Perform related tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, majoring in architecture, construction management, engineering, business, environmental services or related coursework.
- 5+ years of full‑time technical experience in estimating for architecture, electrical, mechanical or plumbing.
- Strong client focus.
- Demonstrated responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adherence to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of HCSS HeavyBid, Sage Timberline, InEight (Hard Dollar), ConEst, Procore, CostOS, ProEst, STACK, ServiceTitan, or similar software.
- Construction contractor estimating experience.
- AACE (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) – CCP or CEP certification preferred.
- ASPE (American Society of Professional Estimators) – CPE and/or QTO Estimating certification preferred.

Compensation
Expected salary (all locations): $86,100 – $150,590.
