This Opportunity

WSP USA is initiating a search for a Cost Estimator supporting our power generation projects. Preference for the candidate is to be located in our Houston, TX office. The following locations will also be considered: Mt. Laurel, NJ. Be involved in projects with our Energy Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges. Power generation projects include different technologies such as but not limited to fossil fuel, nuclear or renewable energies.

The candidate should have direct experience with large-scale electrical, mechanical, heavy civil project. The candidate will prepare and review construction cost estimates for various construction projects in various stages of development. The Estimator is responsible for providing detailed cost estimates on new construction, rehabilitation, alterations, replacement systems, Capital Improvement projects (CIP), change orders and participate in cost negotiations in all disciplines in change orders. Estimators are responsible for change order estimates development and collaboration with the discipline engineers for all project types.

Your Impact
  • Confer with a broad range of designers, consultants and contractors to coordinate and establish detailed cost estimates for construction projects.
  • Prepare and/or facilitate the preparation of detailed cost estimates for all phases of design and/or construction.
  • Supervise the development of quantity surveys and cost evaluations relating to design documents, contract drawings, specifications or contract changes.
  • Review and report on contract estimates prepared by consultants; recommend if estimate is appropriate for client's implementation.
  • Reviews contractor proposals and compares them to scope of work. Determines fair and reasonable value of work based on the proposal submitted. Delineates cost by trade and discipline.
  • Communicate with contractors and sub-contractors to explain the client point of view on reasonable cost of work.
  • Participate in cost negotiations.
  • Plan, assign and review the cost estimating work of estimates.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a Gotham major in architecture, construction management, engineering, business, environmental services or related course work.
  • 5+ years of full time, technical experience in one of the estimating areas of architecture, electrical, mechanical or plumbing
  • Strong client focus
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge in use of HCSS HeavyBid, Sage Timberline, InEight (Hard Dollar), ConEst, Procore, CostOS, ProEst, STACK, ServiceTitan, etc.
  • Construction contractor estimating experience
  • AACE (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) - CCP or CEP certification preferred
  • ASPE (American Society of Professional Estimators) - CPE and/or QTO Estimating certification preferred
