Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the estimating process from preconstruction through bid submission.

• Solicit, evaluate and negotiate subcontractor and supplier proposals.
• Identify scope gaps, risks and cost-saving opportunities.
• Collaborate with project teams, owners and vendors.
• Maintain bid comparisons and estimate breakdowns.
• Assist with value engineering and pre-bid meetings.

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join an established and growing General Contractor. This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator who is looking for the next step in their career, with the opportunity to take greater ownership of the estimating process and work on a diverse range of commercial construction projects.

The company operates across a variety of sectors, including Commercial, Medical/Healthcare, Industrial, Government, Restaurant and Retail construction.

The successful candidate will have strong estimating experience within a General Contracting environment and the ability to manage estimates from initial bid through to final submission.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the estimating process from preconstruction through bid submission.
• Review project plans, specifications, drawings and contract documents.
• Prepare detailed and accurate conceptual, schematic and hard-bid estimates.
• Develop quantity takeoffs and pricing for labor, materials, equipment and subcontractor work.
• Solicit, evaluate and negotiate subcontractor and supplier proposals.
• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, risks and potential cost savings.
• Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, owners, architects and subcontractors.
• Develop and maintain detailed bid comparisons and estimate breakdowns.
• Assist with value engineering and alternative construction solutions.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits and project turnover meetings.
• Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and vendors.
• Assist with developing budgets, schedules and preliminary project costs during preconstruction.
• Mentor and support junior estimators where required.
• Ensure estimates are completed accurately and within established deadlines.

Requirements

• 5+ years of construction estimating experience, preferably within a General Contractor environment.
• Strong understanding of commercial construction methods, materials and sequencing.
• Experience estimating projects from plans and specifications.
• Strong knowledge of subcontractor scopes and commercial construction pricing.
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and contract documents.
• Proficiency with estimating and construction software such as Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Planswift, Procore, BuildingConnected, Sage/Timberline or similar platforms.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or a related field is preferred but not required.
