Job summary

Very seeks a senior firmware engineer with 5–8 years in embedded development to build production firmware for ESP32-based devices. You will own the firmware stack from bring‑up to production, including BLE provisioning, Wi‑Fi, and secure cloud communications with AWS IoT Core.

You will collaborate with hardware engineers and contract manufacturers, contribute to CI/CD, and support FCC certification and device provisioning for scalable, connected devices.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years professional embedded/firmware engineering in C/C++
• Experience with Espressif ESP32 platforms using ESP-IDF including RTOS-based development, OTA updates, and low-level driver integration
• Direct experience developing connected-device firmware on ESP32 with Bluetooth Low Energy and Wi‑Fi connectivity
• Experience debugging protocol-level communication issues, wireless connectivity, provisioning flows, and interoperability in connected-device ecosystems
• Experience connecting devices to AWS IoT Core using MQTT over TLS with certificate-based authentication

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain production firmware for ESP32-based devices using ESP-IDF
• Bring up new hardware and integrate drivers for sensors, actuators, LEDs, and peripherals
• Implement BLE provisioning, Wi‑Fi connectivity, and secure cloud communication with AWS IoT Core via MQTT
• Build and maintain OTA update mechanisms with rollback and staged rollouts
• Debug firmware, hardware, wireless, and cloud issues across development to production
• Partner with hardware engineers and contract manufacturers on factory flashing and provisioning
• Support FCC certification and hardware build phases (EVT/DVT/PVT)
• Collaborate with mobile and backend teams on device data models, telemetry, and device-to-cloud interfaces
• Contribute to firmware CI/CD, test tooling, and technical documentation
