Job description

About the job Senior Equipment Technician

About Us

Pro Coffee Gear is a small business in Austin, TX. We are professional, agile and fast-paced.

Pro Coffee Gear is a rapidly growing coffee equipment e-commerce company based on our 20-acre ranch in Austin, Texas. We aim to make it easy for our clients to equip their business or hobby with high-quality coffee equipment while spending less. On the client side, we do this by pairing delightful online purchase experiences with expert 1-1 consultations. On the operations side, we've built deep experience across the equipment spectrum, and a proprietary process for refurbishing equipment. We don't simply move boxes. We aspire to be the foremost technical experts in coffee equipment and to leverage that expertise to help our clients succeed for the long-term. We support this mission with continual training, outstanding after-sales support, and one of the largest equipment and parts selections in the country. We're looking forward to having you grow with us!

Our Culture

Our warehouse team has a relaxed but professional culture. We work hard but enjoy and have fun at work. We're also a curious bunch who are fascinated by different coffee-making equipment, their nuances across brands, and how they make coffee. We also genuinely enjoy coffee and the process of helping our clients make it. On the operational side, we take pride in delivering high-quality products and identifying any potential issue a client might face before it happens. We are honest and ruthless about finding the root causes of problems when they occur and revise our system design to minimize the chance that they will happen again. If something doesn't go according to plan, we unpack what happened and learn from it - no matter how small the issue may be. We embrace problems as learning opportunities we can use to grow. We strive to disassociate the person from the problem, which helps us be high performers without the stress typically associated with "making a mistake". Because we observe and debug small problems that come up before they become big problems, we rarely encounter after-sales issues. We embrace the small stresses associated with proactively avoiding major issues. This helps us avoid time-consuming and emotionally laborious "firefighting" exercises. It also allows us to be generous with our time when things don't go as planned.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Equipment Technician to join our technical team and serve as a key technical leader. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, a passion for problem-solving, and the ability to work independently on complex technical challenges. You will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, refurbishing, and maintaining a diverse range of coffee equipment while mentoring junior team members and contributing to operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, repair, and refurbish a wide variety of coffee equipment including espresso machines, grinders, brewers, and related accessories
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues across multiple equipment types and brands
  • Lead technical projects from assessment through completion with minimal supervision
  • Develop and document technical procedures, best practices, and quality standards
  • Mentor and train technicians and warehouse support staff on technical skills and processes
  • Conduct root cause analysis on equipment failures and after-sales issues
  • Collaborate with operations and sales teams to provide technical expertise and client consultation
  • Test and validate equipment performance to ensure it meets our quality standards before shipment
  • Manage technical inventory, parts sourcing, and vendor relationships
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to refine refurbishment processes and operational efficiency
  • Provide technical support for pre-sales consultations and post-sales troubleshooting as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4+ years of hands‑on technical experience in equipment repair, maintenance, or a related technical field (appliance repair, industrial equipment, HVAC, automotive, etc.)
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple technical projects simultaneously
  • Experience reading technical diagrams, schematics, and service manuals
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical team members
  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy equipment (50+ lbs)
  • Commitment to quality workmanship and continuous learning
  • Passion for coffee or willingness to develop deep expertise in coffee equipment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with coffee equipment (espresso machines, grinders, brewers, etc.)
  • Experience in commercial equipment repair or foodservice equipment
  • Background in technical training, mentoring, or team leadership
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical components, and control systems
  • Familiarity with quality control processes and documentation systems
  • Experience with refurbishment or restoration processes
  • Technical certifications or formal training in equipment repair
  • Interest in coffee culture and brewing principles

What We Offer:

We understand that coffee equipment may be new territory for experienced technicians from other fields. We provide comprehensive training and support to help you develop expertise in coffee equipment while leveraging your existing technical skills. If you're a strong technician who enjoys learning new systems and solving complex problems, we'd love to hear from you.

  • Paid time off
  • Professional development assistance and ongoing technical training
  • Opportunities for career growth and leadership within a rapidly expanding company
  • Goal‑oriented work culture providing autonomy and opportunities for advancement
  • Work with a diverse range of cutting‑edge coffee equipment
  • Be part of an international team passionate about coffee and technical excellence
