The purpose of this position is to assist the assigned department with projects by operating different types of equipment and performing maintenance.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

1. Transport, set up, and operate equipment such as front-end loader, knuckle boom, roll-off truck, rear loader, dump truck, etc., to perform daily waste collection or debris cleanup.
2. Perform inspections and pre-operational checks on all equipment; conduct preventative maintenance and cleaning.
3. Generate and complete work orders; document daily activities.
4. Provide information to customers as requested.
5. Supervise staff by prioritizing and assigning work, ensuring proper training, adherence to policies, and maintaining a safe work environment in the absence of the Solid Waste Crew Supervisor.

Supplemental Functions

• Perform other similar duties as required.

Licensing And Certifications

• Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (Class A, Truck with Trailer).

Note: Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

• Require standing, dexterity, walking, lifting, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking.
• Very Heavy exertion: over 100 pounds occasionally, 50-100 pounds frequently, 20-50 pounds constantly.
• Exposure to extreme temperatures, wetness, humidity, respiratory hazards, noise, vibration, and physical hazards.

Required Experience
