Job summary

The City of Charlotte is seeking an Equipment Operator Senior for the CDL Pathway. This role operates heavy equipment such as backhoes, front-end loaders, and trucks, supporting street maintenance and paving projects.

Selected applicants will receive time to earn a CDL Class A license through an 8-week offsite course, with pay during training. Upon completion and licensing, you will join a crew to perform full-time equipment operations from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with a December 7, 2026 start date.

Qualifications

• At least two years' experience operating complex construction equipment.
• Eligible external candidates without a Valid Class A license may apply but must meet criteria to attend paid CDL Class A program upon hire.
• Ability to obtain CDL tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment: gradall, loader, backhoe, trucks, and paving machines.
• Haul materials to/from job sites and assist with loading/unloading.
• Lead in the absence of the crew chief and assist supervisor on site.
• Identify underground services and ensure safety compliance per OSHA and city rules.
