Job summary

The City of Raleigh is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Transportation department. This role operates dump trucks and other heavy equipment to support street, sidewalk, and utility projects.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and 1–3 years of heavy equipment experience, plus valid NC CDLs. The position requires extended hours on rotating shifts during emergencies and inclement weather.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; 1–3 years’ experience operating heavy construction equipment.
• Or any equivalent combination of training and/or experience.

Responsibilities

• Operates dump truck to haul crews, supplies and equipment to job sites
• Operates dump truck with leaf machine attachment during leaf collection season
• Assists with concrete repairs including setup and finishing
• Uses snow removal equipment to operate the dump truck during inclement weather
• Works extended hours on rotating shifts during emergencies and inclement weather
