Job summary

Amperesand is seeking a Sr. Staff Equipment Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Reno team. You will architect, design, and validate high-performance mechanical systems and automation equipment for manufacturing power electronics in a high-density, thermally constrained environment.

Collaborating with controls, electrical, and software groups, you will drive DFA/DFM, lead design reviews, and ensure safe, compliant, and scalable equipment for high-volume production, with travel up to 20%.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of professional experience in Mechanical design.
• Hands-on fixture, tooling, and automation design experience.
• Expert CAD proficiency for mechanical assemblies (3DX, CATIA, NX, SolidWorks, Creo).
• DFM/DFA methodologies and design for manufacturability emphasis.
• FEA and structural analysis for stress, vibration, and durability.
• Experience leading large-scale capital equipment design projects.
• Mentor engineers and lead design reviews with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, design, and develop custom automation equipment, tooling, and fixtures.
• Utilize CAD software to create detailed mechanical designs.
• Contribute to DFA to improve manufacturing cost and quality.
• Conduct stress, thermal, and tolerance analyses to ensure robustness.
• Design equipment for manufacturability, reliability, and efficiency.
• Develop mechanical systems with servo motors, pneumatics, hydraulics, and robotics.
• Work with controls and electrical engineers to integrate PLC, HMI, sensors, and vision systems.
• Lead prototyping, vendor coordination, and testing.
• Perform design reviews and risk analyses (FMEA).
