Job summary

Sompo seeks a Sr. Claims Counsel, EPL to lead US Employment Practices Liability claims.

Based in Sompo US offices, you will evaluate exposures, perform coverage and damages analysis, and support underwriting with legal reviews and policy drafting. The role requires a law degree and 5–8 years in EPL claims or related litigation, with a preference for law firm and carrier experience and pursuing an insurance designation.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5-8 years’ experience in EPL claims handling or related litigation with increasing responsibility.
• Preference for experience at both a law firm and with an insurance carrier.
• Strong preference for pursuing insurance designations (e.g. RPLU or CPCU).

Responsibilities

• Manage US Employment Practices Liability (EPL) claims, related systems, and processes, evaluating exposures and making substantive claim decisions across EPL and other lines.
• Provide coverage, liability, and damages analysis for EPL claims with knowledge of D&O claims; identify trends affecting CML or FI portfolios.
• Support underwriting through legal reviews, policy drafting, and timely reporting of exposures to underwriting and management.
• Prepare and distribute accurate narrative and arithmetic reports promptly.
• Collaborate with Global Claims Team on projects, conferences, and publishing claim trends.
• Communicate with underwriting, functional groups, and management; travel as required.
