Job summary

Rocket Lab Optical Systems in Chantilly, VA seeks a Principal Algorithm Engineer to develop, validate, and deploy advanced EO/IR image-processing algorithms for space payloads, in collaboration with ML, optical design, and modeling teams.

You will work on real-time implementations, model and simulate mission imagery, and contribute to performance analytics while supporting government customers and ensuring system reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's level with extensive EO/IR image processing experience.
• Experience designing, implementing, testing, and optimizing image processing algorithms for EO/IR sensors.
• Strong communication skills and ability to present results to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and validate EO/IR image-processing chains.
• Create simulation frameworks for mission imagery and ML training.
• Apply deep learning to detect and track low-SNR objects in EO/IR imagery.
• Collaborate with software/firmware teams to deploy real-time algorithms.
• Maintain and improve deployed algorithms and diagnose fielded systems.
• Analyze large EO/IR datasets to derive analytics and performance metrics.
• Present results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
