Job summary

Position Overview

This position is accountable for reviewing proposed highway improvements to determine potential environmental impacts, develop appropriate mitigation when necessary, and to keep records of the status of all mitigationactions to ensure the timely, accurate, and complete development of environmental reports and documents.

Essential Functions

• Submits environmental survey requests to the Bureau of Design and Environment.
• Assesses hazardous waste surveys and submits work orders.
• Processes borrow waste area requests.
• Motivates, trains, and evaluates subordinate employees.
• Coordinates the activities of subordinate personnel with other sections within the bureau and consultantsto ensure environmental coordination for projects are completed in a timely manner to meet prescribedletting dates.
• Performs duties in accordance with departmental safety policies. Preforms all duties in a mannerconducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering, or a job relatedtechnical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR seven years ofengineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Extensive experience in the performance of a variety of technical activities relating to civil engineering.
• Extensive experience managing environmental aspects of transportation projects.
• Ability to perform job duties independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD),Geographic Information System (GIS), and web-based databases.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
