Job summary

The World Bank Group (WBG) seeks a Manager to lead its Environmental and Social (E&S) Risk Management unit within the CRO Vice Presidency in Washington, DC. You will oversee a team of specialists, manage budgets, and coordinate across regional E&S teams to assess and improve portfolio performance.

You will guide risk ratings, ensure compliance with E&S policies, and support CAO/IP processes. Collaboration with regional offices and policy units will shape WBG’s environmental and social risk

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in environmental science or related field required.
• At least 12 years of international experience in public/private/MLD sectors with focus on environmental and social management.
• Experience managing environmental or social risks on complex, multi-stakeholder projects across sectors/regions.
• Strong leadership and people management in large, diverse organizations.
• Ability to provide intellectual leadership and talent development across locations.

Responsibilities

• Lead the E&S Risk Management team and oversee specialists, including budgeting, staffing, and planning.
• Oversee E&S risk management across projects using the Integrated Risk Information System and coordinate with regional teams.
• Manage direct complaints with CAO/IP processes and clearance of responses.
• Provide strategic leadership to ensure alignment with WBG policies and standards in E&S review procedures.
• Support high-risk and complex projects with guidance to regional teams and collaboration with special operations.
