Job summary

IDB Invest in Washington, DC, seeks an Environmental & Social Director to lead a cross-functional team focused on managing ES risks across portfolio, stakeholder engagement, transparency, and knowledge sharing. You will report to the ESG Managing Director and advance our ‘Originate to Share’ model while ensuring policy compliance and robust grievance mechanisms.

Qualifications

• Master's degree (or equivalent) in law, anthropology, sociology, environmental management, environmental engineering, or related fields addressing environmental and social risks and sustainable finance, stakeholder engagement, and communications.
• At least 10 years of progressive relevant experience, preferably 12–15 years, with leadership experience in environmental and social safeguard services.
• Experience with stakeholder engagement, transparency and access to information, and grievance management is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of professionals to identify and manage environmental, social, and transparency risks in IDB Invest-financed projects.
• Direct the grievance management mechanism and related actions, and oversee policy compliance.
• Coordinate institutional responses to reviews by independent mechanisms and participate in dispute resolution processes.
• Develop partnerships with stakeholders to enhance ES sustainability of projects.
• Oversee data analytics to support decision-making and compliance in ES risk management.
• Provide capacity-building and mentorship to staff and clients on ES risk management and transparency.
