Job summary

Dewberry is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist to join our Mid-Atlantic team, with options for Fairfax, Richmond, Virginia Beach, Roanoke, or Owings Mills offices. The role covers wetland science, regulatory permitting, NEPA, and construction compliance in the Mid-Atlantic region.

The successful candidate will manage projects, mentor staff, and contribute to quality control across transportation and land development efforts.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of applicable environmental experience, including project management.
• B.S. in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Wildlife Biology, or related field.
• Experience coordinating with regulatory agencies and leading large projects.

Responsibilities

• Execute, coordinate, and lead complex environmental permitting processes, NEPA assessments, and large-scale environmental activities with regulatory agencies and clients.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to develop project staffing plans and budgets to ensure successful delivery.
• Provide mentorship and support of mid-level and junior staff, including reviewing work for accuracy and clarity.
• Supervise staff as necessary to ensure timely completion by prioritizing tasks.
• Assist team with fieldwork, technical reports, agency coordination, and quality control.
• Prepare and oversee proposals, provide technical input, contribute to proposal writing, and engage with pursuit teams.
• Lead proposal preparation, contract review and execution, and manage project activities with a focus on quality, scope, budget, and schedule.
