Job summary

Dewberry is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist to join our Mid-Atlantic team, with a flexible location among Fairfax, Richmond, Virginia Beach, Roanoke, VA or Owings Mills, MD offices. You will lead permitting, NEPA, and environmental assessments on transportation, land development, and other projects.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience, a relevant BS, and a track record coordinating with regulatory agencies, mentoring staff, and delivering projects on time and within budget.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of applicable experience, including project management experience.
• BS in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Wildlife Biology, or a related field.
• Environmental certifications such as PWD, PWS, VSWD, ISA Certified Arborist, or similar preferred.
• Design/Build experience is preferred.
• Proficiency with ArcMap/GIS, AutoCAD and MicroStation is preferred.
• Knowledge of VA/MD environmental regulations and NEPA background preferred.
• Experience leading collaborations with scientists, engineers, and subconsultants on large projects.
• Experience coordinating with clients and regulatory agencies.
• Knowledge of regulatory issues and changes; ability to manage multiple projects.
• Desire to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Execute, coordinate, and lead complex environmental permitting processes and NEPA assessments.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to develop staffing plans and budgets.
• Provide mentorship and feedback to mid-level and junior staff.
• Supervise staff to ensure timely completion of assignments.
• Assist team with fieldwork, technical reports, and agency coordination.
• Prepare and oversee proposals and pursue opportunities; engage with pursuit teams.
• Lead proposal preparation, contract review and execution, and manage project activities.
