Job summary

WSP USA seeks a Senior Environmental Scientist to support planning, permitting, and execution of linear infrastructure projects across New Jersey and the Mid-Atlantic region. You will provide environmental permitting, natural resource assessments, regulatory coordination, and compliance support for projects including electric transmission, pipelines, and renewable energy facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Ecology, Biology or related field.
• 5-7 years of environmental consulting, permitting, or regulatory experience.
• Demonstrated experience supporting environmental permitting for linear infrastructure projects.
• Working knowledge of NJDEP Freshwater Wetlands Protection Act rules, Flood Hazard Area Control Act rules, Coastal Zone Management rules, FWA 401/404, Endangered Species Act.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support preparation of environmental permit applications and approvals with NJDEP, USACE, USFWS; develop permitting strategies to support project schedules.
• Conduct and oversee wetland delineations, stream/open water assessments, flood hazard evaluations, species habitat assessments, ecological surveys, and environmental constraints analyses; prepare supporting technical reports.
• Support planning, design, and construction phases; review plans for environmental constraints; prepare impact analyses, permit exhibits, mapping, and documentation; coordinate field investigations and manage subcontractors.
• Serve as technical liaison with regulatory agencies and clients; participate in agency meetings; respond to comments and prepare permit revisions.
• Manage environmental tasks and small to medium projects; develop scopes, schedules, costs; monitor budgets and deliverables; mentor junior staff.
