Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist, Geologist, Engineer or Hydrogeologist to join its collaborative team in Bethlehem, PA. This individual will serve a key role in assisting with the natural resource planning, assessment, and permitting of land development and infrastructure projects, as well as leading specific assignments and tasks. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse team of top professionals across various geographic areas and regulatory programs, collaborating and learning from our multi-disciplinary team of site/civil, geotechnical, survey, and landscape architecture professionals on landmark land development projects.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Prepare natural resource planning, assessment, and permitting documents for land development and infrastructure projects in close collaboration with project personnel.
  2. Use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess natural resource characteristics of project sites for assessment and permitting due diligence.
  3. Perform natural resource feasibility assessments for development projects.
  4. Write and review draft due diligence reports, assessment, and permit applications.
  5. Prepare site assessments and related natural resource figures using GIS and AutoCAD software.
  6. Assist with planning and executing field investigations, including performing tests, collecting samples, recording data, and performing calculations.
  7. Collect various environmental samples such as soil, soil vapor, air, sediment, surface water, and groundwater.
  8. Review and interpret environmental, geological, and historical records to support due diligence.
  9. Prepare logs and field forms like drilling logs, investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs.
  10. Identify and solve routine and complex field problems, documenting them accurately and informing the project manager of issues.
  11. Lead tasks related to preparing and modifying engineering documents, including reports, specifications, plans, and cost estimates.
  12. Interact professionally with clients and subcontractors in collaboration with supervisors.
  13. Supervise or coordinate work of staff engineers, interns, and others on specific assignments.
  14. Coordinate and perform field inspections as needed.
  15. Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or Planning.
  • At least 3 years of experience in natural resource assessment and permitting.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal land use permitting processes.
  • Strong skills in GIS and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, with strong analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Willingness to participate in fieldwork and work during evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Occasional travel to project sites or client locations.
  • Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and good standing.
