Job summary

City of Austin is seeking an Environmental Scientist Sr. to manage complex environmental protection programs under minimal supervision. This role involves planning, site selection, data analysis, and reporting for capital projects and regulatory compliance.

The candidate will provide technical guidance and training where needed. The position requires advanced knowledge, a relevant degree with several years of experience, and possession of Texas environmental licenses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related field with six years of relevant experience.
• Master's degree in Environmental Science or related field with four years of relevant experience.
• One additional year of experience may substitute for one year of education, up to four years.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prioritize, and track technical resources for projects.
• Conduct site selection and study design.
• Operate and calibrate field equipment.
• Perform chemical, biological, and physical testing and classification.
• Interpret water quality, flow, and biological data.
• Prepare reports and memos based on data evaluation.
• Review policies, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
• Assess environmental impacts of proposed capital projects and development plans.
• Assist in developing code changes and rules.
