Job summary

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency seeks an Environmental Protection Specialist IV to act as working supervisor and technical expert for a municipal water pollution control permitting unit in Des Plaines. You will supervise 3-5 professional and technical staff, review facility plans and NPDES permits, and provide expert consultation on difficult environmental issues.

The role represents the agency in regulatory proceedings and prepares documents for bureau management.

Qualifications

Four years of professional experience in environmental protection or related field.
Four years of reviewing and writing NPDES permit applications for water pollution control facilities.
Four years of interpreting and applying relevant state and federal environmental laws, rules and regulations.
Current valid driver's license and ability to travel.
Preferred: four years of supervising technical staff in a public or private organization.
Preferred: experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access software.

Responsibilities

Supervise 3–5 professional and technical staff.
Conduct complex reviews of facility plans, permit applications and NPDES permits.
Provide expert consultation on difficult environmental issues.
Represent the agency in regulatory proceedings.
Prepare documents for bureau management.
