Job summary

The Alachua County Department of Environmental Protection, through its Natural Resources Program, seeks a Senior Planner to provide expert environmental‑planning analysis to guide land‑use and development decisions while protecting sensitive lands and habitats.

This role involves complex research, report writing, and coordination with multiple departments to support the Comprehensive Plan and development regulations in north‑central Florida.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in urban planning, geography, public administration, architecture, civil engineering, environmental science, or related field and one year planning experience.
• Background checks pre-hire and ongoing are required.
• Valid Florida Driver License and MVR as per county policy.
• Up to three moving violations or accidents in 24 months may affect qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Design and perform complex planning research and prepare reports.
• Assist with Comprehensive Plan, land development regulations, and policies.
• Supervise research teams and present findings to management.
• Conduct environmental and transportation analyses; develop research projects.
• Assist with grant applications and field inspections.
