Job summary

Albemarle County's Department of Community Development seeks a Senior Planner I/II to handle development review, long-range planning, and related duties in a collaborative, public-facing role. Qualifications

• Master’s degree in planning, architecture, landscape architecture, natural resources management or related field.
• Four years of relevant professional planning work and project management experience (two years for Senior Planner I).
• OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Computer experience: proficiency with Microsoft Office, ESRI GIS and databases.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates, reviews, or manages applications and projects of moderate to high complexity; Lead reviewer for site development plans, subdivision plats, zoning actions, and other types.
• Coordinates application review across the department and with partner agencies.
• Prepares and delivers technical reports and presentations to the public and elected officials.
• Leads or assists with policy updates including the Zoning Ordinance, Comprehensive Plan, and Master Plans.
• Provides support to staff leadership with committees, boards, and authorities.
• Interprets zoning and subdivision regulations to provide accurate feedback to applicants.
