Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Lead Environmental Planner or Senior Environmental Planner in the Northern California Bay Area to manage CEQA and NEPA projects, pursue new business opportunities, and collaborate with SWCA’s planning, natural, and cultural resources teams across California.

The role requires 8–10 years of relevant experience, a bachelor’s degree in urban planning or environmental science, and strong writing, QA/QC, and client-communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, environmental science, or a related field.
• At least 8 years of experience with a public planning agency or environmental firm.
• CEQA and NEPA knowledge and related environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence; attention to detail; and organization.
• Prepare and manage CEQA and NEPA documents for diverse projects and clients.
• Travel to client meetings, site visits, hearings, and conferences.
• Conduct background research and data collection for CEQA/NEPA docs.
• Lead and prepare proposals, coordinate with teaming partners, participate in interviews, and support client outreach.
• Develop and maintain client relationships and contribute to business development.
• Supervise and mentor junior staff, review reports for accuracy and clarity.
• Collaborate with planners and technical specialists to produce CEQA/NEPA documents.
