Job summary

NiSource is seeking an experienced Environmental Coordinator III to lead permitting, compliance, and regulatory activities for utility projects. You will manage surveys, budgets, and schedules, coordinating with consultants and agencies to secure approvals.

You will represent the company with federal, state, and local regulators and develop strategies to mitigate risks while ensuring compliant project execution across planning, construction, and closeout.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Engineering, Engineering, Planning, or related field; equivalent utility industry experience may be substituted.
• 7-9 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental permitting, planning, or regulatory compliance.
• Experience obtaining environmental permits for major utility, energy, or infrastructure projects.
• Experience coordinating with USACE, USFWS, EPA, IDEM, Indiana DNR and local agencies.
• Strong written communication skills for permit applications, reports, and executive summaries.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental planning, permitting, compliance, and regulatory approval efforts for utility infrastructure projects.
• Develop permitting strategies, budgets, schedules, and risk mitigation plans.
• Coordinate environmental surveys, studies, and consultants for permitting.
• Serve as primary company representative with regulatory agencies, including negotiations and proceedings.
• Ensure environmental programs and compliance obligations are implemented throughout project lifecycle.
