Job summary

National Grid in Hicksville, NY is seeking a Manager, Environmental Permitting and Compliance to oversee licensing and compliance activities across generation and natural gas operations on Long Island and NYC. You will lead a team of 10+ staff, coordinate with operations, engineering, and legal, and ensure that environmental requirements are established, communicated, and implemented.

A bachelor’s degree is required, with 10+ years in permitting and strong regulator engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field; graduate degree is a plus.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in environmental licensing and permitting, preferably for utilities in NY.
• Supervisory experience with ability to lead a team.
• Proven experience engaging regulators and stakeholders professionally.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to prepare permit applications and technical reports.
• Proficiency with MS Office and permitting/project tracking systems; EMS familiarity is a plus.
• Valid driver's license and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide direction for Environmental Licensing and Permitting and Compliance staff.
• Oversee permitting programs including air, SPDES, ASTs/USTs, land use, wetlands, waste management.
• Monitor field operations and ensure compliance with applicable requirements.
• Oversee project permitting, coordination, tracking, and timely approvals.
• Communicate with regulators and peers to facilitate understanding and resolution.
• Maintain auditable records of permits, monitoring results, and correspondence.
• Oversee contracting and vendor activities related to permitting and compliance.
• Monitor budgets and expenditures for environmental services.
• Develop relationships with Operations, Engineering, Legal and other teams.
• Provide training to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
