Job summary

National Grid in New York is seeking two Environmental Engineers/Scientists to support our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and regional compliance programs across Syracuse and Buffalo. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage regulatory requirements and environmental permits, helping to protect energy infrastructure.

The role emphasizes leading environmental compliance activities from planning through operation, reporting, inspections, and due diligence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of related environmental work experience.
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance programs.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience supporting environmental permitting, remediation, or related environmental programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental compliance activities across project planning, design, construction, and operations.
• Develop and maintain environmental procedures by monitoring emerging environmental laws and regulations.
• Serve as a liaison with environmental regulatory agencies during inspections and audits.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Construction, and Project teams to identify environmental risks and implement compliance solutions.
• Manage environmental incidents, investigations, remediation, and corrective action programs.
• Conduct environmental assessments and inspections at substations, operating facilities, and other properties.
• Coordinate environmental due diligence activities for property transactions and third-party access requests.
• Coordinate waste characterization, recycling, transportation, and disposal with permits and reports.
• Build relationships with stakeholders and train employees on best practices.
