Job summary

National Grid is seeking Environmental Engineers/Scientists to support an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and regional environmental compliance across Syracuse, NY and Buffalo, NY. The role focuses on regulatory compliance, permitting, and stakeholder collaboration to protect environmental health in New York.

You will partner with Operations, Engineering, and project teams to manage environmental risks, conduct site assessments, and drive remediation and due-diligence activities.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in environmental field and at least 5 years of related experience.
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance programs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience supporting environmental compliance, permitting, remediation, or related programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental compliance activities throughout project planning, design, construction, and operations.
• Develop and maintain environmental procedures by monitoring emerging laws and regulations.
• Act as liaison with environmental regulatory agencies during inspections and audits.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Construction, and Project teams to mitigate environmental risks.
• Manage environmental incidents, investigations, remediation efforts, and corrective actions.
• Conduct environmental assessments and inspections at substations, facilities, and rights-of-way.
• Coordinate waste management, permitting, and compliance documentation.
